This is a post from Fay Rowe’s, daughter, Gillian Fritzsche.
The other day, I was driving in the mid-afternoon to pick up my children from school. I turned a corner and started driving down a small hill. As I drove, I saw a mama pushing a stroller up the hill on the side walk. Her head was down, and I thought, “Man, is she struggling? Lack of sleep? Weariness?” As I watched her, she flipped her head up and she had the biggest smile on her face and she was laughing. I realized, she’d been talking to her babe and was simply delighted and full of love for her child.
In that moment, I heard in my heart:
That is how I delight in you.
The music I was listening to swelled to a crescendo:
I have given all, for you! I have given all, to you!
I was overwhelmed in that moment of realizing again and anew of the depth of my Heavenly Father’s love for me. For us all. He delights so much in us. He created us, we were separated from Him, and he provided the path back home.
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure.
He is waiting for us to rest in the knowledge that He loves us, first.
First, He loves us.
So many times, when we pray, we come to our father with requests, with promises, with petitions of forgiveness, with plans, with hopes… How would our prayers change if the first thing we acknowledge when we come to the thrown room is His love?
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
1 John 3:1 NIV
Today, acknowledge to Him His love for you.
And look for fingerprints of him smiling down on you as he carries you forward up life’s many hills.
