Peace On Earth?

Every year as we deck the halls and trek the malls, there returns the old hankering for the promise of the angels to come to pass. Mostly, at this point in history, we are just thankful for a week long respite from hearing about the wars and rumours of more.

But even though angels sang of peace, it wasn’t peace among earth dwellers that constituted their theme. It was peace between God and man. Personal relationship restored. Jesus even warned that this restoration would cause problems in the earth. Amazing!

But this restored relationship, if we accept it, will bring a strange kind of peace to our hearts, even in the midst of a broken world. The kind of peace that only can be found in the safety of that fellowship with our creator, our Father.

But let me get really technical here. Just as Jesus didn’t come on the scene to bring peace on earth, he didn’t just come to make peace between God and man, and leave it at that. He didn’t even come just to set us free from the power of the law of sin and death. He said it himself, “I am come that you might have life, and that more abundant.

LIFE! That’s Jesus’ end game. The kind the Father planned from the beginning. Everything else, the paying the price, the grace by faith plan, the Spirit indwelling, all were necessary to bring back the LIFE.

Today, if you have  welcomed Jesus, remember the life that is already in you, and search the scriptures to find out what it looks like.

“I am the way the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me,” (John 14:6).
